MAAS to the next level

More and more people are dependent on passenger cars for transport. This results in higher greenhouse gas emissions, especially in cities. Nearly 50% of the Dutch population also suffers from road traffic noise, especially in densely populated areas. Squad Mobility wants to contribute to a solution to this challenge with compact and fully electric cars.

The Squad, as Squad Mobility’s solar-electric car is called, aims to make solar-powered transport generally accessible. “Our goal is very large and widely available mass production,” said Robert Hoevers, one of the founders. “The Squad will cost under 6,000 euros. This makes electric mobility accessible to most Europeans. ”

Emission-free
The car focuses on mobility in cities. “Because they are only two meters long, you can park four in a parking lot,” says Hoevers. “You are very efficient with inner-city space, and at the same time you naturally have no emissions.” Thanks to the removable batteries, the cars can also be charged at home.

Shared car
Hoevers emphasizes that the Squad has a lot of potential for sharing platforms. “You don’t depend on the weather, you don’t need a helmet,” he explains. “And most importantly, we avoid the costs of picking up and charging the fleet because the cars charge themselves. That also means that you put less demand on the existing charging infrastructure. ”

Global ambitions
Squad Mobility aims to have a first prototype this spring, and expects to crowdfund a second round of investment in the fall. “There is worldwide interest,” says Hoevers enthusiastically. “We hope to see them all over cities so that everyone has access to affordable energy-friendly mobility.”
